Helen Botha
My artistic journey began in 1983 with basic concepts, through amazing experiences as part of the local art group, capturing the essence of Lake Kariba in Zimbabwe where I lived.
A few years on, moved to Harare – self taught then, to develop art skills further, learning through various exhibitions before moving to Bulawayo.
My paintings evolved into bush/water scenes, seascapes, still life, bushfires, people/pet portraits, other art/craft works – but specializing in wildlife.
My passion for nature & conservation became intricately woven into my creative expression.
In Oct 24, I was fortunate with the remarkable opportunity of emigrating to Jeffreys Bay, enabling me to enjoy other family here.
This significant transition, along with my beloved fur-babies. Tim my rescue dog, & rescue cat Shanti, which means “peace”. Shanti – a tiny sickly scrap in a cardboard box grew beautifully into his forever home, an incredibly soulful & spiritual cat – legendary now as the “Artist’s Cat”. At every opportunity he loves to sit and watch me paint.
The bond between art, nature & wildlife is deeply mutual and reciprocal, as artists and conservationists work together to raise awareness for endangered – and all other species – we share space with, alongside fragile ecosystems.
