Luka Joubert

My name is Luka Joubert. I am 15 years old and live in Jeffreys Bay. I began my pottery journey in late 2025 in my grandmother, Maryna Joubert’s, studio. I particularly enjoy working on the pottery wheel and am most drawn to creating functional, usable pieces. Painting is not my strong suit, so I prefer to let form, texture, and glaze do the talking.

I love experimenting with different glazes and surface finishes, and I’m especially inspired by Far Eastern ceramics. I admire their focus on simplicity, balance, and everyday use, as well as the subtle beauty found in natural forms, muted colours, and imperfect surfaces. The way Far Eastern ceramics celebrate craftsmanship, restraint, and functionality strongly influences the way I approach my own work.

I am still very new to pottery and recognise that I have a great deal to learn. That said, I am deeply curious, eager to grow, and excited by the learning process. I approach this craft with openness and a willingness to develop my skills through practice, observation, and experimentation
